What is Twitter?
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. The short messages are referred to as Tweets, which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.
Why use Twitter?
Twitter is a revolutionary Web 2.0 micro-blog that might change the entire network of blogging as we know it. It’s a powerful tool that makes it easy to spread you message. Hundreds of thousands of individuals send these short messages on a daily basis. Topics may range from a new business they just launched to what they ate for dinner.
Your Twitter Name and Picture
Stick with your name and a personal picture. If you use something like ImRichWhyArentYou and post a picture of money, people will stay away from you. Keep it simple and stick with your name and a picture of you. We are all sick of the spammers and the online community is looking for real people.
Don’t Spam, Engage
The best way to communicate on Twitter is to share information and talk to others. If you just wait for others to come and engage you, you are probably wasting your time. Comment on others blogs, ask questions, and share you knowledge, then you following will grow.
Examples of Posts on Twitter from Successful Marketers
‘Ordinary is boring...extra ordinary’s the name of my game & I’m going to bring a few people along with me that R up to playing BIG!’
This is a value given, empowering message that engages the audience in conversation.
‘Yes I can show you how to make lots of $$$ w/ video that’s easy. But I would rather show you how to be an extra ordinary human being and both.’
Sharing your knowledge is golden.
‘Staring at the ocean outside my window sun is shining man I LOVE my life someone pinch me whats 1 thing U Love about UR Life?'
This individual is engaging the audience. Share a little bit about yourself, you a human being, not a computer. Also, don’t worry about proper grammar, which went out the window with text messaging.
